The Starts With You movement (SWU) and the festival we’re holding to celebrate it, has as its main objective to inspire, inform and create awareness and show that everything we do is sustainable and contributes to sustainable practices in new ways.
We need to become aware of the effect our activities may have and make sure we are committed to being ethical, and working towards sustainability, health, and safety; all the while working within federal law.
And so, we lay out to you our values and guidelines that regulate all of our relationships, with both partners and public. For more details on how each of our principles will be put into practice, you are welcome to read our Action Plan, which is provided below.
SWU’s principles, directives and sustainable actions
1. Human rights
In all of our activities, we strive to act in accordance to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other protocols and international treaties. We do not tolerate degrading working conditions, child labor, or slave labor.
2. Workers’ Rights
Besides working in accordance with federal labors laws, we try to offer adequate working conditions to all that are or will be involved in any of our activities or events. We also fulfill all the requirements, regulatory standards, and legal conventions relevant to our relationships and working environment
3. Anti-discrimination
We firmly reject any form of discrimination on the grounds of color, gender, sexual orientation, religion, origin, social class age or physical condition in our workplace.
4. Sustainability education
We want to engage, mobilize and communicate the values of sustainability to anyone who wishes to participate in any way in the movement or is involved in its making.
5. Social inclusion
We will always give preference to local service providers, corporations, small firms, and supplier when needed, in order to contribute to the increase in local income and social inclusion.
6. Health and Safety
We aim to provide a healthy and safe environment for all those involved in our activities and/or who attend our events. We will achieve this by strictly adhering to health and safety standards, constantly evaluating possible risks and taking measures to avoid them.
7. Stakeholder Involvement
We believe that the complete involvement of all interested parties is essential to complete our objectives. We want to build relationships that exchange support and contribute to strengthen and disseminate our values. With this in mind, we work towards establishing partnerships and join projects that include local communities, allowing us to share our guidelines for sustainability with the public.
8. Transparency, ethics and the fight against corruption
Our relationships with our partners need to be based on ethics and transparency. Moreover, we fight against corruption in all of its forms, and we do not engage in partnerships with any institution or person with a dubious reputation.
9. Environmental legislation
All of our activities and those of our partners must conform with federal laws regarding the environment.
10. Minimizing Environmental Effects
We will always try to reduce make up for or eliminate the effect we have on the environment. Therefore all our events and activities should work towards completing these goals and targets. a) carrying out events that use small amounts of carbon and developing processes that reduce and mitigate the effects of gas emission; b) giving preference to the use of recyclable or recycled materials whose origins have been certified to follow acceptable socio-environmental standards; c) correct waste disposal methods; d)taking steps to reduce water and energy consumption and e) restoring the area in which the festival will take place.
